HRA Summer Membership Meeting
July 9 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Learn how you can get involved in the Highland Revitalization Project at our next general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, on our Facebook page.
The Highland Revitalization Project is a multi-phase project Highland resident Melissa Shepherd spearheaded in 2019. She conducted a walking survey of a 12-block area stretching from Olive Street to Kings Highway, taking note of water leaks, trash, inoperable vehicles and other issues that posed a health risk to the community and reported them to the City of Shreveport Government.
Her efforts resulted in 7 of 14 issues being resolved to date, and it sparked the idea that if each block had a designated person to report such issues – a block captain – it could impact public health issues such as blight.
She identified a few people to take on this role to identify and report issues on their street and she’s continued to see positive results.
Come hear Melissa detail this exciting project and learn about ongoing and upcoming phases at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9. To ensure the safety of neighborhood residents, HRA’s board of directors agreed to host the summer meeting virtually. You can tune in through Facebook Live on Highland Restoration Association’s page. The meeting will incorporate a question-and-answer segment following her talk. Questions can be submitted in the comment box of the Facebook Live post.
